Details: Children Youth and Families are looking for practitioners to work with in our First Nations Family Response and Engagement Team.
The primary purpose of the First Nations Family Response and Engagement Team is to divert First Nations peoples safely away from the Child Protection setting in a support manner, and to link them with culturally appropriate and relevant services in community.
This team strives to provide culturally safe case management for children, young people and their families; aiming to achieve change via culturally informed engagement tools, strengths-based practice, and family led decision making in the Child Protection Setting.
Leaders and practitioners within the team place a vital emphasis on First Nations people leading the conversation and involving them in the journey away from the Child Protection setting in alignment with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principles.
The Health and Community Services Directorate (HCSD) is committed to addressing the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in the child protection and youth justice systems and is committed to meeting the cultural needs of young people we work with.
HCSD acknowledges the significant contribution individuals with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage and experience bring to improving outcomes for young people.
Eligibility/Other Requirements:
This is an Identified position in accordance with Section 27(4) of the Public Sector Management Act 1994 and is only open to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander lived experience and cultural capability is considered essential and therefore confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage may be requested.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Science or related discipline are essential. Please note: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who do not have these qualifications but who have appropriate and relevant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage and experience are eligible to apply.
For Youth Justice positions, a relevant qualification in Criminology or Law may be considered.
This role will work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, cultural awareness, and capacity to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is essential.
Driver’s license (C class) is essential.
Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra (act.gov.au)
Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
Notes: A merit pool may be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
