Job Description
- We are looking for an experienced and highly organized Press Shop Manager to lead and oversee all operations within our press shop department.
- The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of pressing operations, tool & die handling, sheet metal forming, team management, and a strong background in manufacturing hardware components like hinges, locks, and handles.
- This leadership role is crucial for ensuring efficient, safe, and quality-driven production aligned with company targets.
What will a Press Shop Manager do?
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the press shop to meet production schedules, quality standards, and efficiency goals.
- Plan manpower deployment, press machine allocation, and workflow for maximum utilization.
- Supervise the setup and changeover of dies and ensure accurate press machine settings.
- Coordinate closely with the Tool Room for die maintenance, modification, and new tool trials.
- Ensure adherence to safety procedures and regulatory compliance across all press operations.
- Monitor press machine health and coordinate with the Maintenance team for preventive and breakdown maintenance.
- Review production reports, analyze rejection trends, and implement corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement in productivity, quality, cost, and workplace organization (5S, Kaizen).
- Mentor, train, and evaluate press shop team members including engineers, supervisors, and operators.
- Collaborate with Production, Quality, PPC, and Design teams for process optimization and new product introductions.
- Ensure accurate documentation of production records, die usage logs, maintenance schedules, and safety checks.
- Identify skill gaps and recommend training programs to improve team performance.
- Lead efforts for new press equipment installation and process automation where feasible.
An efficient Press Shop Manager should have:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of press machines (mechanical & hydraulic), die setting, tonnage calculations, and tool handling.
- Deep understanding of sheet metal forming, progressive dies, compound dies, and safety systems.
- Capability to analyze production data and implement process improvements.
- Strong troubleshooting and decision-making skills.
- Familiarity with quality management systems, lean manufacturing, and ISO standards.
- Excellent time management, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to coordinate across departments and drive cross-functional goals.
Minimum Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical / Production Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 8 - 10 years of experience in a press shop environment, including 3–5 years in a managerial or supervisory role (preferably in hardware fittings or automotive manufacturing).
- Strong working knowledge of toolroom coordination, press tonnage matching, material behavior, and die life management.
- Proficiency in MS Office – especially Excel and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of ERP systems and production planning tools is preferred.
