Role impact & contribution
As a Principal Adviser in the Federal Financial Relations team, your day will involve shaping high‑quality economic and policy advice that supports NSW priorities. You’ll lead analysis on complex revenue, tax and intergovernmental issues, working closely with colleagues across Treasury and engaging with key external stakeholders.
You’ll monitor emerging policy developments, identify risks and opportunities, and translate complex issues into clear, evidence‑based advice for senior executives and Ministers. A typical day may include drafting or reviewing briefs, coordinating input across teams, and contributing to strategic discussions on national reform.
You’ll also guide and mentor junior staff, balancing workloads and supporting their development to deliver timely, high‑quality outcomes. Alongside this, you’ll contribute to broader branch and divisional priorities, helping to ensure advice is proactive, collaborative and aligned with the Government’s reform agenda.
You will be joining our Economic Strategy & Productivity Group and will be working within the Revenue Division. Read more about your future Group and Division.

The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:
Relevant tertiary qualifications (e.g. Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, Law) or equivalent experience
Proven experience delivering strategic policy, commercial advice or economic analysis in a data‑driven environment
Strong leadership capability, with experience guiding teams to analyse complex data and policy issues
Ability to apply critical thinking across diverse and sensitive policy matters to support sound advice and forecasts
Advanced communication skills, able to clearly explain complex information to senior leaders and Ministers
