EQ Research seeks a highly motivated full-time Principal Energy Policy Analyst to join its client-focused clean energy, EV and energy storage policy analysis team. The ideal candidate will have significant subject matter expertise on a range of energy policy, regulatory, and market topics of interest to a range of clean energy market segments (distributed, community-scale, utility-scale), gained through at least five to seven years of direct work experience. The position requires strong attention to detail and the ability to concurrently work on multiple tasks or projects.
We are looking for a candidate who can:
• Coordinate client-specific work by anticipating client needs ahead of time, preparing the scope of work and developing the project plan and budget for approval. Projects may include researching, analyzing, reviewing, editing, summarizing and/or drafting comments in regulatory proceedings and/or legislation in direct collaboration with clients and other EQ analysts.
• Serve as an expert witness on topics where the analyst possesses subject matter expertise.
• Provide qualitative and/or quantitative analysis on regulatory matters, including but not limited to different rates, rate design, policy and programs, including but not limited to how different program designs affect the economic viability of DERs.
• Research, track, analyze, and synthesize state legislative and regulatory developments, as well as general rate case proceedings.
• Work independently and as part of a team to develop research reports, white papers and infographics.
• Effectively coordinate and lead efforts and staff on client projects and subscription-based services.
• Supervise employees on client projects and subscription-based services to ensure deliverables are high quality, completed in a timely manner, and exceed client expectations.
Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in public policy, economics, environmental studies or related field and at least five years of direct experience in renewable energy policy, consulting or related field or Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least seven years direct work experience.
• Substantial knowledge and subject matter expertise of the U.S. renewable energy industry, electricity markets and trends.
• Direct work or research experience related to energy storage technologies and/or policy issues.
• Strong understanding of current retail rate structures, rate design, and utility regulation. Knowledge of wholesale market structures and rates is a plus.
• Technical understanding of renewable energy, energy efficiency, storage, and grid technologies.
• Deep understanding of public policy and its development.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to translate complex issues into persuasive prose.
• Excellent research, critical analysis, and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to take initiative and work independently with broad strategic guidance.
• Demonstrated ability to synthesize information into clear and compelling presentations and written reports and to present quantitative information in a clear, visual format.
• Affinity for and keen attention to details.
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage time well.
• Team player, effective and organized project manager and leader, ability to prioritize and be nimble.
• Willingness to go “above and beyond” in order to meet strict, externally imposed deadlines and ensure client deliverables are completed on-time, on-budget and to EQ’s standards of excellence.
• Client management experience.
Location: Remote but eligible candidates must reside in NC or VA.
