Job Description
As member of a team of software developers responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Microchip's user interface (UI) toolkit, Embedded Graphics Toolkit (EGT). EGT assists customers in creating GUI applications on embedded Linux running on Microchip's microprocessors.
• The primary responsibility is to develop and maintain EGT for Linux. This involves understanding the requirements of the customer applications and designing, coding, testing, and implementing features for EGT to support their needs.
• Debugging and troubleshooting are an essential part of this position. The ability to identify and fix issues timely is critical.
• The person in this role is expected to work collaboratively with other developers, factory application engineers, and field application engineers to customer support to meet the needs of the end-users using EGT.
• As technology is continually evolving, staying updated with the latest UI design trends, frameworks, and tools is expected.
• The developer should maintain accurate documentation of the code they write. This ensures that other developers can easily understand and modify the code in the future.
• Software development practices such as version control, code reviews, and testing to ensure that the UI toolkit is reliable and meets the end-users' requirements is expected.
• The person in this role collaborates with other departments such as silicon design engineers, product management, and user experience design to ensure that EGT meets microprocessor performance requirements.
Overall, a Linux UI Toolkit Developer plays a critical role in designing and developing UI toolkits that are user-friendly, responsive, and efficient. They should have a strong understanding of software development practices, Linux operating systems, and UI design principles to succeed in this role.
Requirements/Qualifications:
• A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering computer engineering or a related field. Relevant coursework in user interface design is also beneficial.
• Prefer candidates with at least two years of experience in software development, UI design, or a related field. Experience in developing UI toolkits for Linux operating systems is a plus.
• Must have strong technical skills in programming languages such as C, C++ and Python/Lua. Familiarity with Linux operating systems, UI design principles, and toolkits such as GTK, Qt, and wxWidgets is also crucial.
• Ability collaboratively with other developers in a team environment is essential.
• Have excellent analytical skills to understand end-users' needs and design UI toolkit features that meet those needs.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with other developers and stakeholders.
• Must be committed to continuous learning and stay updated with the latest UI design trends, frameworks, and tools.
