We're looking for a visionary Principal Engineer to join our Engineering Practice — a team with an enterprise-wide focus on uplifting technical capability, consistency, and excellence across ASB.
This is a foundational role that blends deep technical leadership with coaching, strategy, and innovation. You'll work across platforms and tribes to accelerate delivery, modernise development practices, and shape the future of engineering at ASB.
You'll be hands-on with architecture, design, and scalable systems, while also mentoring engineers, influencing technology choices, and contributing to the wider tech community.
Ō pūkenga | About you
You're a passionate technologist with a strong track record of leadership and impact. You bring:
10+ years of software development experience, including 3+ years in a principal/architect role.
Expertise in cloud-native architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP), DevOps, CI/CD, and automation.
Strong knowledge of distributed systems, security, containers, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures.
A growth mindset and a love for coaching, mentoring, and building engineering capability.
Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and collaboration skills.
Experience contributing to open-source or tech communities is a bonus.
