Job Description
• This job is in Microchip's UNG group based at Chennai for a 6 - 12 years experienced embedded Software Engineer
• This job is for an individual contributor aspiring to evolve as Software/Firmware Architect role and Job title depends on relevant job experience of the candidate
• This is a technical contributor role and involves active contribution to software architecture specifications, design, development and support for different Device Drivers OS platforms (like Linux, Windows, QNX), Firmware (boot code, application code), Test tools and Applications for Microchip’s Ethernet, PCIe, Bridge and USB products and testing the same
• Requires creation of high complexity software architecture, design, test plan, implementation, testing and release of software deliverables according to product specifications
• Involves responding to queries from internal & external customers, active participation in debugging and resolving technical issues
• The prospective candidate should be able to work on multiple projects in parallel, should work in a cross functional team setup, supporting both pre and post silicon stages of projects
• This role provides equal opportunity between development of Firmware, drivers or software tools for new products, and maintenance of existing software (for adding new features and bug fixes)
• Though works as an individual contributor, the individual is expected to demonstrate technical leadership, willing and capable to mentoring others technically on need basis
Requirements/Qualifications
• The candidate should have a B.Tech (preferably ECE/CSE/EEE)
• Should be very strong in C programming; hands-on in assembly language basics will be helpful
• Good understanding and hands-on experience in Micro controllers, Operating Systems and RTOS internals are essential
• Experience in low level embedded software/firmware design, development, testing and deployment with any Micro controllers is desired
• Good Knowledge of peripherals, interfaces like UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, Ethernet, PCIe will be helpful
• Familiarity in using Logic analyzers, Debuggers, Oscilloscope, Protocol analyzers will be helpful
• Ability to understand datasheets, Application notes, PCB schematics is required
• Good problem-solving skills, and willing to learn on the job on any technical topics as may be needed for projects
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Should be self-motivated, self-driven person and a good team player willing to multitask projects according to set priorities
• Should be open minded person who is willing to reach out to different stakeholders in a cross functional project team to resolve issues as situations demand
• Adherence to standards, guidelines, and best practices in the industry
Desired Skills
• Experience in Firmware or kernel device driver development for PCIe, Ethernet or USB based devices, protocols will be helpful
• Experience in device driver development for Windows, embedded Linux, QNX, will be a plus
• Good understanding of Ethernet basics - Layer 2, 3 protocols, Switches, PHYs, knowledge of USB Type-C will be a plus
• Familiarity in scripting language like Python will be a plus
• Experience in embedded software development for Automotive/Industrial sectors will be a plus
• Basic knowledge on security standards, DES, AES, SHA-1 will be a plus
• Exposure to ASPICE, Automotive Functional Safety, Cyber security standards will be a plus
