As a Principal Legal Counsel at the Anti-Dumping Commission, you will work closely with the Executive Director, Legal and other team members to create a cohesive and collaborative legal branch. You will prepare legal advice and supervise team members delivering legal advice to the commission.
You will participate in regular meetings with investigation case teams and contribute to the commission's decision-making meetings. Your day-to-day work will involve operational oversight of compliance with the Commissioner's legislative obligations under the Customs Act and other Acts.
You must have at least 5 years post-admission experience and a strong understanding of administrative law and statutory interpretation principles. You should also have experience providing well-reasoned, evidence-based, written legal advice in a regulatory environment.
This role requires collaboration skills to engage with staff at all levels, high standards of professional and personal integrity, and knowledge of Australia's anti-dumping legislation and the World Trade Organization (WTO) Anti-Dumping Agreement.
Key Responsibilities
Manage case work including providing effective legal advice to investigators.
Supervise lawyers providing client-focused legal services to case teams.
Build a positive, productive and mutually supportive team environment.
Evaluate and advise on developments arising from judicial review, merits review, and WTO cases.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this role, you must hold an unrestricted practicing certificate, admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of a State or Territory of Australia, and substantial contemporary, relevant knowledge and experience in administrative law and statutory interpretation.
You must also be an Australian Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
