Job Description
The Movement's central objective is to assist Aboriginal people, particularly those in custody or imprisoned, to alleviate poverty and social misfortune by using the legal systems of South Australia and Australia. Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage legal staff who provide or support legal services.
Ensure service targets are met and services comply with obligations to funders.
Establish and manage systems to uphold professional standards and quality service delivery.
Represent the Movement on matters concerning policy and representation of Aboriginal peoples.
Provide advice to the CEO and Board on strategies and priorities for legal services.
Promote a positive image of the Movement among stakeholders and communities.
Mentor and guide lawyers on their professional conduct.
Requirements:
Admission as a legal practitioner in South Australia or eligible for immediate admission.
Ability to manage a legal practice in a cross-cultural environment.
Experience in legal practice, including criminal law, civil and family law.
Proven experience and representation skills in appearing as Counsel in Superior courts.
Understanding of economic, social, and cultural issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Capacity to work effectively in an Aboriginal organisation and demonstrate respect for Aboriginal cultures.
Commitment to access to justice and delivering culturally appropriate services.
Excellent communication and analytical skills.
