An opportunity exists in the Queensland Department of Education, Early Childhood Strategy and Performance Branch, Child Safety Review project team for a Principal Policy Officer to lead national reforms to implement the Child Safety Review recommendations. In this role you will work with national stakeholders to influence, develop and implement long lasting and effective legislative and regulatory reforms to improve the safety of children whilst in early childhood education and care.

About The Role

The Child Safety Review project team is part of the Early Childhood Strategy and Performance Branch in the Queensland Department of Education. The Child Safety Review project team is working with all states and territory governments to implement the recommendations from the Review of Child Safety Arrangements under the National Quality Framework.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

Lead and participate in policy development to inform regulatory reform in response to the Child Safety Review recommendations.
Provide timely and quality advice to senior officials in Queensland and nationally by drafting briefings, reports and submissions in relation to strategic issues affecting the early childhood education and care sector.
Collaborate with a national team of policy officers to identify, analyse and progress strategic issues and formulate innovative and workable solutions and strategic advice for senior officials.
Represent the department and coordinate the department's contribution to a range of internal and external committees and forums.
Maintain a current knowledge of developments and initiatives in early childhood education and care, particularly regulatory policy, legislation and practice.


Highly desirable skills and experience;

Have demonstrated previous policy experience, preferably in a regulatory environment;
Have exemplary writing skills; and
Be able to work effectively in a small team to draw together policy proposals informed by research.
