Business Data Technology (BDT) is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer specializing in big data technologies to join its group. In this role, the incumbent will lead, design, and architect solutions that enable users to easily manage complex data pipelines and configure governance rules for their data. Key job responsibilities
A Principal Engineer for BDT India will have the opportunity to:
Shape the vision, architecture, and technical strategy for next-generation ETL, catalog, data-streaming and open-source offerings across Amazon’s retail businesses
Design and build systems that enable users to easily discover, create, audit, and manage complex data analytic and machine learning pipelines that span multiple compute and storage platforms, backed by the largest datalake at Amazon.
Partner with senior leaders within BDT and across Amazon to create end-to-end, best-in-class experiences for working with data at Amazon scale
Innovate and own design at-scale on distributed compute platforms with leading technologies like EMR, Spark, Ray, Sagemaker, PartiQL and others.
Have a deep mastery of programming languages, distributed system design, data engineering, and performance tuning of large-scale distributed systems.
Independently own the architecture, engineering quality and technical roadmap for multiple teams across BDT India.
Think big, invent on behalf of our users, make high judgment calls to keep teams moving and find elegant solutions to hard problems.
Leverage engineering skill-set across many teams and initiatives, as well as to go deep and get hands-on with the hard problems you are passionate about.
A day in the life
A Principal Engineer role at Amazon: i) conceives product and service architecture ii) ensures scalability, availability, reliability and ease of operations, iii) collaborates with technical leaders iv) mentors the internal engineering talent. On a given day, you may write and / or review architecture and design docs, and / or code for a new product, service or proof-of-concept for your team or perhaps other teams across Amazon, participate in strategic discussions on programs that impact the company, help with career growth of your team members, assess other technical leaders for promotion readiness, influence other Director / VP organizations

Business Data Technology (BDT) organization is part of eCommerce Infrastructure Services with Amazon and is responsible for Amazon's big data solutions including its enterprise data sets, the Amazon data lake/data marketplace, and core infrastructure supporting data analytics and machine learning. The BDT team is pushing the boundaries of technology by constantly finding new and creative ways to deliver data to its users in a secure, consistent, accurate, and timely manner.
We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:
Bangalore, KA, IND
Experience in full-stack mobile development- android /iOS or modern web browsers and services mainly in Java in a Linux or Unix environment
Experience designing and building large-scale systems in a multi-tiered, distributed environment (Service Oriented Architecture)
