Job Description
The role:
Reporting to the Technical Delivery Manager, the Principal Technical Specialist will play a key lead role in the organisation's cyber security uplift, specifically driving the implementation and enhancement activities in relation to MultiFactor Authentication (MFA) controls across critical applications and systems, in line with industry best practices.
The role requires a strong blend of deep technical expertise, solution design capability, stakeholder coordination, and hands-on implementation experience across hybrid identity environments in large and complex organisations.
As the Principal Technical Specialist, your duties will include:
Oversee implementation activities including configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and refinement of authentication flows in relation to phishing-resistant MFA methods (e.g., app-based authentication, FIDO2 keys)
Evaluate and implement modern, phishing-resistant MFA methods (e.g., app-based authentication, FIDO2 keys) as part of the organisation's future-state MFA strategy.
Lead the deprecation of SMS-based MFA, ensuring smooth transition to modern, secure alternatives.
Provide expert guidance on identity security best practices, Zero Trust identity principles, and modern authentication standards.
Contribute expert advice and analysis on current and future security requirements.
Provide comprehensive support during planned ICT changes and updates, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum security.
Undertake high level research and provide advice on emerging technologies to enhance the effectiveness of system design, management and support.
Manage and contribute to the development, publication, implementation and compliance to technical policies, standards and procedures at an enterprise level.
Maintain and manage effective working relationships and engage with third parties that provide technical support for the enterprise infrastructure.
Provide high-quality technical analysis, including documentation of upgrade strategies and options papers, with demonstrated writing skills for large-scale enterprise.

Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Entra ID, including conditional access, authentication methods, MFA configuration, and identity protection capabilities.
Proven experience delivering MFA or Authentication transformation projects, particularly conducting deployments across complex application landscapes.
Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
Demonstrated ability to participate in a highly skilled technical team, providing high-level technical direction, standardisation and support of enterprise infrastructure in a large customer focused organisation.
Proven high level understanding and working knowledge of relevant technical domains.

Demonstrated experience in promoting and ensuring the use of appropriate techniques, within the technology sphere to provide third level support.
Proven ability to manage and contribute to the development, publication, implementation and compliance to technical policies, standards and procedures at an enterprise level.
