The Department of the House of Representatives is seeking applications from those interested in directly supporting the work of the House of Representatives and members of Parliament at Parliament House in Canberra.
About the department
The Department of the House of Representatives provides services to support the efficient conduct of the House of Representatives, its committees and certain joint committees, and provides a range of services and facilities for Members of Parliament in Parliament House. The department also promotes the work of the House in the community and supports the conduct of the Parliament’s international and regional relations.
About the role
As part of the Content and Outreach team, you will oversee the successful delivery of timely, high-quality print services to support the work of the House of Representatives, parliamentary committees, Members of Parliament and the department.
To succeed in this role, you will need extensive experience managing a print room with high-capacity print and finishing equipment. This includes high-speed colour and mono production printers, in-line finishing equipment, wide-format printers, guillotines, cello-glazing devices, and perfect binders.
This position overseas the departments print function in conjunction with one staff member who you will supervise to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality printing services during busy parliamentary sitting periods. You will procure print equipment, print stock and finishing materials in accordance with Commonwealth Procurement Rules and department policy. You will also manage contracts and service level agreements with vendors and key stakeholders.
Duties
Ensure printing to support the work of the House of Representatives, parliamentary committees, Members of Parliament and the department is delivered on time and to a very high-quality standard.
Supervise one staff member, including allocation of work, attendance, training and development, and lead recruitment activities. Monitor print room workloads and workflows to ensure the printing services are delivered economically and efficiently.
Develop print processes for regular and ad-hoc work, create/update manuals and tip-sheets, and train staff on in-house print procedures.
Coordinate and undertake desktop publishing services including the preparation of copy, proofreading and other quality assurance processes.
Maintain production information for printed work and report on volume, quality and timeliness of outputs. Use and maintain information in the printing service’s Management Information Systems and workflow tools.
Lead procurement activities in accordance with Commonwealth Procurement Rules and department policy. Manage supplier contracts and service level standards, including for the delivery of consumable items, maintenance services, copy counts and costings.
Ensure Work Health and Safety requirements are met in the print room, including keeping up-to-date Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
Position Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible, applicants must:
Be an Australian citizen;
Undertake a National Police check;
Obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Baseline level.
