A bit about your role
As the Product Development Specialist – Milk Protein & Whey Protein Concentrates, you will play an essential role in shaping the future of Westland’s specialised dairy ingredients portfolio. This is a fixed-term position through to early July 2027, offering a unique opportunity to lead meaningful innovation projects over a defined period.
The role is responsible for managing innovation activities across the full product life cycle — from concept development through to commercialisation — with a focus on MPC and WPC products. You will lead product and process development initiatives, coordinate and run lab, pilot and commercial trials, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope.
Working closely with cross-functional teams across Innovation, Sales, Marketing, Quality, Technical, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain, you’ll translate customer and market needs into viable product solutions that support Westland’s commercial and strategic objectives.
A key part of the role involves being a subject matter expert in milk and whey protein technologies, staying connected to market trends, emerging technologies, and evaluation methodologies. You will also support regulatory compliance, customer technical queries, and the development of internal knowledge and capability.
This role reports to the Head of Innovation – Proteins.
A bit about you
You are an experienced food technologist or process specialist with strong knowledge of dairy ingredient manufacturing, particularly in milk and whey protein concentrates. You bring experience in product development, process improvement, and end‑to‑end project management, ideally within a dairy or broader food manufacturing environment.
Your strengths include analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to turn complex technical information into clear, actionable project plans. You enjoy running trials, solving problems, and collaborating closely with multiple stakeholders to achieve successful product outcomes. You are comfortable navigating regulatory requirements such as CODEX, FSANZ, FDA, and China GB Standards, and you understand how to design products that meet both market and compliance expectations.
You are organised, innovative, and adaptable, with excellent communication skills and a commitment to quality and food safety. You thrive in a fast-paced, cross‑functional environment and enjoy contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new product opportunities.
A tertiary qualification in Food Technology, Process Engineering or a related science field is essential, along with minimum 5 years’ relevant experience.
