About the Role:
As part of the DesignWorks team, the Production Artist works closely with the Taste of Home design and editorial teams to ensure content resources are produced effectively and efficiently Reporting to the Manager, Production Design, and partnering closely with TOH's US-based Art Directors, the individual has the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with priorities that may shift due to changing deadline requirements.
About You:
You're someone who is computer savvy and eager to build your competency as a content designer. You have an excellent eye for data, photography and graphics and have good interpersonal skills for collaborating with other editorial team members. You possess both strong technical and design readiness, and can use your expertise to create high-quality finished products that meet organizational goals.
Your Day-to-Day:
• Analyzing and preparing data sources and image content for merging
• Utilizing data merge functionality in Adobe InDesign, to create merged data source files
• Understanding the outcomes of merging to prevent potential errors
• Performing audits of merged sources and maintaining visual content galleys
• Identifying and resolving image and artwork issues that arise during production
• Managing photo assets and preparing images for color correction and digital proofing
• Updating and maintaining data merge files, parent templates, styles, and branded elements
• Working with templates and layout guides, general page formatting, resizing layouts, placing photos and artwork
• Preflighting files and creating assets for release to printers and promotional partners
• Assisting the DesignWorks print team as needed to keep all Brands on schedule
• Collaborating with other designers, and the DesignWorks team to develop new ideas and efficiencies
You Have:
• Associates degree or equivalent work experience
• Experience as a production artist
• Data Merge (or Mail Merge) experience
• Proficiency in all Mac-based, industry-standard software programs including, but not limited to: Adobe Creative Cloud – InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, Microsoft Office, and Acrobat
• Superior organizational skills and sharp attention to detail
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong prioritization and time management skills
• Mathematical Skills—ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Aptitude to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines with changing priorities
• General knowledge of publishing or print production terminology and processes
