As our Production Lead, you will:
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Duties
· Review daily work orders to determine upcoming programming needs.
· Conduct twice-daily Gemba walks to monitor quality, 5S practices, and safety compliance.
· Collaborate with the Production Manager and Project Manager to align on priorities.
· Perform job nesting for optimal material usage and efficient CNC setup.
· Improve programming efficiency to shorten lead times.
· Program and adjust toolpaths, speeds/feeds, and tolerances for CNC machines.
· Prioritize urgent requests from operators for recuts and tool adjustments.
· Confirm work offsets, tool numbers, and setups align with machine configurations.
· Support CNC production and assembly teams to ensure quality and on-time delivery.
· Monitor machine and tool status, escalating issues when necessary.
· Provide feedback on parts with poor machinability or excessive setup time.
· Verify accuracy and completeness of cut sheets and project documentation.
· Provide technical support to operators, especially on setup and CNC program-related issues.
· Conduct pre-production meetings prior to each project involving the operator, shift lead, Plant Manager, and Estimator.
Production Floor Support
· Respond promptly to operator requests for program tweaks or clarifications.
· Troubleshoot machining issues including collision risks, tool wear, and tolerance gaps.
· Ensure correct program revisions are running on machines.
Documentation & File Management
· Save and back up all CNC programs by project and part type.
· Maintain and update setup sheets, including notes, tool lists, and images.
· Communicate all changes to team leads and the Production Manager.
Weekly Duties
· Review the job queue with the Production Manager, Drafters, and Plant Operations Manager.
· Plan and prioritize programming tasks based on deadlines and capacity.
· Coordinate with the drafting team during production meetings on missing or unclear shop drawings.
· Evaluate and refine existing programs for cycle time and tool life improvements.
· Update standard libraries and templates in CAD and V-Carve.
· Recommend tooling and fixture improvements for efficiency.
· Participate in planning meetings and assist with production quoting.
· Validate and release programs using sign-off checklists.
· Collaborate with drafting and estimating teams on design-for-manufacturing (DFM) best practices.
· Conduct prototype runs to test programs, build mockups, and ensure product feasibility.
· Adjust programs based on sample test results to meet customer specifications.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
· Perform minor machine repairs and escalate to service providers as needed.
· Coordinate with external technicians for preventative maintenance and repairs.
Monthly Duties
· Audit and optimize CNC programs for repeat jobs.
· Review and recommend changes to tooling for high-volume production.
· Document and share best practices with the broader production team and provide documentation to the Plant Operations Manager.
· Ensure all CNC programs are backed up and version-controlled.
· Clean up outdated program versions and organize by product family.
· Validate pilot runs with Drafters and document approvals and feedback.
Qualifications
· Minimum 3–5 years of experience in CNC machining and programming.
· Proficient in CAD software and V-Carve (or similar CAM tools).
· Strong understanding of machining principles, materials, and tooling.
· Excellent troubleshooting skills and mechanical aptitude.
· Experience with prototyping and custom manufacturing preferred.
· Strong communication and documentation skills.
· Detail-oriented and highly organized.
