About the Role
Position Title: Production Manager
Location: Canberra, ACT
Employment Type: Full-Time, permanent
Salary: $80,000-$95,000 plus 12% super
We are seeking an experienced and driven Production Manager to oversee daily operations across our dry, raw, shed, and weekend production areas. Reporting to the Head of Production, this is an operational role responsible for leading multi-disciplinary production teams, driving performance across all production functions, and maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality.
This role is central to the smooth running of our facility and requires a hands-on leader with strong planning capability, technical knowledge of food manufacturing, and a proven ability to manage people and processes at scale.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise Production Team Leaders and Team Members across all shifts, providing clear direction, feedback, and development support.
Determine, implement, and monitor production strategies and plans, aligning daily and weekly activities with business goals and KPIs.
Plan production activities with consideration for output quality and quantity, cost, available time, and labour requirements.
Control the operation of production plant and equipment, including coordinating preventative maintenance and ensuring machinery is operated safely and efficiently.
Monitor production output and costs, adjusting processes and resources to minimise waste and improve efficiency.
Oversee inventory management for raw materials and consumables, maintaining traceability and anticipating production requirements.
Enforce adherence to all food safety and quality standards including SQF, HACCP, and internal QA systems, and ensure accurate completion of all related documentation and records.
Coordinate occupational health and safety requirements, lead incident investigations, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Supervise truck loading and unloading, including container operations for meat receival and dispatch.
Inform the Head of Production and relevant managers on production matters, performance outcomes, and operational issues.
Review and recommend improvements to production methods, processes, and systems to drive efficiency and quality outcomes.
Support weekend production activities and provide reports to the Production Head on outcomes.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor degree or higher in Production Management, Operations Management, or a closely related field; or
At least five years of relevant experience in a production or manufacturing management role in lieu of formal qualifications.
Relevant on-the-job experience in food manufacturing may be required in addition to formal qualifications
Skills and Experience Required
Demonstrated experience in food manufacturing or production management.
Demonstrated experience overseeing the implementation of and ensuring ongoing compliance with food safety and quality management systems (SQF, HACCP or equivalent).
Proven leadership and people-management skills across multi-team environments.
Ability to plan and manage production schedules, resources, and costs effectively.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
High attention to detail with a compliance-focused approach.
Forklift licence (advantageous).
HACCP or SQF certification (advantageous).
