Production Operator at Crown Cork & Seal USA, Inc. summary:

As a Production Operator at Crown Cork & Seal, you will be responsible for tending to automated machines that produce aluminum cans for the beverage industry. Your duties will include regular inspections to ensure quality, performing basic maintenance and housekeeping tasks, and completing required paperwork. This position requires physical stamina and attention to detail to maintain efficient production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Crown’s Beverage Division manufactures a variety of packaging solutions for soft drinks, craft beers, coffees and teas as well as new energy drinks. Crown Cork & Seal’s North American Beverage Packaging Division has openings for Production Operators at our manufacturing facility located in Sugar Land, Texas. This facility manufactures aluminum cans for the beverage industry.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the tending of one or more automated production machines or equipment that perform one or more functions in the making of aluminum cans. Maintains and observes operation of machines and equipment to insure the production of high quality cans. Inspects cans according to customer specifications. If specification are not met, informs Team Leader or Team Coordinator. If the machine jams, stops machine and clears away damaged or jammed cans, etc. Must be able to determine when a machine is malfunctioning to ask for assistant from Team Leader or Team Coordinator. Must be capable of basic machine maintenance: lubricates and cleans parts; replenishes oils, chemicals, fluids, or other supplies according to the requirements of each machine or equipment; repairing minor oil leaks, tighten loose screws, nuts, and bolts. May assist or help in mechanical repairs and more technical maintenance under the supervision of qualified Production Technicians. Duties include operating forklift for materials handling. May include loading/unloading trucks or rail cars, warehousing, and staging materials. Other duties as assigned by the team or management.

Responsible for the housekeeping and cleanup of the areas of responsibility such as wiping clean machines, picking up cans, emptying spoilage containers, mopping, painting, emptying trash cans, etc. Responsible for the required paperwork of assigned area or machine(s), examples: Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts, logbook entries, or bills of lading, inventory sheets, warehouse tags, etc.

Job Requirements

Educational Requirements: High School diploma preferred or equivalent.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other Team Members or customers.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Work Experience Requirements: One year or more of related work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job the team member is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The team member frequently is required to climb or balance and talk or hear. The team member is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The team member must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and /or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Job Environment: Working with high speed automated machines and equipment in a manufacturing plant producing aluminum cans for the beverage industry. The plant operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Will have constant pressure to produce high quality cans and to keep the production line operating. The shifts are four (4) days on and four (4) off with the shift starting at 7:00 and ending at 7:00 (12 hours). The plant is hot in summers and cold in winters. Will be assigned to different areas of the plant throughout a team member's work career. Must be willing to work all areas of production and on any shift. While performing the duties of his job, the team member regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The team member frequently works in high, precarious places and may occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
