Purpose of Position

The Production Supervisor is responsible for supervising production employees in a food manufacturing

environment. The position plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures, and recommends

improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.

Key Responsibilities

Manage, develop, and motivate direct reports

Ensure effective employee relations

Resolve employee issues through problem resolution.

Provide employee coaching and administer performance contacts when needed

Ensure that Health & Safety rules and regulations are adhered to and all appropriate Health & Safety programs/policies are followed

Ensure that the quality of the product produced meets specifications and adheres to the quality systems, processes, and procedures

Lead department/shift through management of staff to ensure the smooth running of the production process

Balance quality, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results and continuously improve in all areas

Develop solid understanding of ingredients, products, processes, and equipment

Ensure problem solving and troubling shooting skills are used by employees to identify root causes and to take fast, effective action to resolve production problems

Work closely with other Shift Supervisors to ensure production handovers are effectively communicated

Monitor, measure, and report on production related performance

Track time and attendance using ADP software, administer performance contacts as required by policy

Lead meetings with employees as required

Perform other duties as assigned

Key Skills and Experience

Intermediate Language skills – ability to read/interpret documents, ability to write routine reports/correspondence, ability to speak effectively

Intermediate Mathematical Skills – ability to calculate figures/amounts

High Reasoning Ability – ability to solve practical problems & deal with variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

Computer Skills including manufacturing software, payroll systems, spreadsheets, word processing software

Previous experience in a food manufacturing environment required

Previous experience with packaging machinery/systems preferred

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Bachelor’s Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university, or four years of related experience preferred

Training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum three years as a supervisor of a department with at least ten employees required.
