Primary objective
The Programs Officer supports the Senior Programs Officer to plan, monitor and manage youth programs and project
initiatives in to improve outcomes for young people who are at risk of entering, or are in the youth justice system.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Contribute to the development of and administer programs and projects which ensures funded programs meet
contractual obligations and are aligned with Department core business, priorities and objectives.
2. Maintain professional and productive working relationships with Aboriginal organisations, non-government organisations
and other internal and external stakeholders to deliver youth justice outcomes.
3. Contribute to the planning and procurement, implementation and management of community youth services that support
the NT Government requirements for community youth programs and coordinate and support contract management
activities including performance meetings.
4. Provide operational and strategic advice and support senior management on all aspects of program/contract management
and administration, the status and performance of funded services and the implementation and evaluation of programs.
5. Prepare quality, comprehensive and timely briefings, reports, submissions and Ministerial briefings relating to funded
programs.
6. Represent Youth Justice Programs at relevant meetings with non-government organisations and / government
representatives as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated sound working knowledge and experience in program, project and/or contract management and
administration including evaluation and monitoring activities and a sound knowledge of associated legislation in a
community services environment.
2. Demonstrated self-motivation and initiative and skills for working productively and cohesively within a team with
competing work priorities, sound organisational and time management skills and proven ability to work in a changing
organisational and political service delivery environment.
3. Demonstrated sound written communication skills with an ability to prepare comprehensive and timely high-level briefs,
ministerial correspondence and reports in tight time frames with attention to detail and accuracy.
4. Demonstrated sound interpersonal and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of internal
and external stakeholders to develop collaborative partnerships and the ability to work with people from diverse
backgrounds.
5. Demonstrated high level computer skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite of programs, including
finance and Grants NT or similar.
6. Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal cultures and their impact on youth justice issues in the Territory.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications relevant to the position or significant relevant experience in the Youth Justice or Child Protection
sector.
2. Hold a current Northern Territory C Class Drivers Licence and able to travel including remote areas in the NT.
