Our Stormwater & Waterways Capital Delivery Team here at the Council is a high performing group of experienced professionals delivering interesting and challenging projects that are critical to the community. Our work includes protecting homes from flood risk and improving stormwater quality, as well as improving the health of our waterways.
About the role | Ko te mahi nei
As a Project Manager, you will lead high value Stormwater, Waterway and Flood Protection infrastructure projects from early investigations to post construction handover. You'll manage scope, time, cost, quality as well as risks and issues while bringing your team and stakeholders on the journey with you to deliver for our communities.
A key part of this role is developing strong relationships with local communities, mana whenua, community boards, external partners and internal specialists. You will look for innovative ways of working to accelerate delivery while maintaining best practice project management standards.

You will be a highly motivated and accountable project management professional who knows how to gets things done and keep things on track, while bringing people together. You combine drive and determination with collaboration and strong interpersonal skills. You are comfortable both challenging and being challenged, and you will influence, lead, and inspire your project team to deliver high quality results.
We are looking for someone with:
At least 10 years’ experience in an engineering discipline, with a minimum of 5 years as a Project Manager delivering large value infrastructure projects.
A recognised professional PM qualification such as PMP or equivalent.
Proven ability to lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams, breaking down barriers and fostering collaboration.
Strong self‑management and personal accountability, with a focus on delivering high‑quality outcomes for communities.
Commitment to best‑practice project management, continuous improvement, and delivering value through innovative approaches.

Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week
Position - Permanent, full time
Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street
Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $126,230 to $140,255 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
