The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Project Officer - Melbourne within our Recruitment Services Team.
This is an Aboriginal designated position, classified under 'special measures' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
About the Business Unit
The Aboriginal Justice Group is committed to driving systemic change in the justice system, to deliver better outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians. The group works in close partnership with Victorian Aboriginal communities and is guided by principles of Aboriginal self-determination.
The Aboriginal Workforce Unit (AWU) sits within the Aboriginal Justice Group and is responsible for the development and delivery of the department's Aboriginal Workforce Strategy (the strategy) and associated programs. The AWU provides ongoing support to Aboriginal employees and manages a range of Aboriginal employment initiatives. The AWU contributes towards the innovation of new programs and policies to strengthen career development and cultural diversity and inclusion across the department.
About the role:
Reporting to the Manager, AWU you will work within a small team to progress initiatives under the strategy. This will involve drafting documents, internal reporting, providing administrative support and supporting event logistics. You will be responsible for preparing updates for the Aboriginal Staff Network (ASN), promoting employment, learning and development opportunities from across the department. You will also support the delivery of the annual Aboriginal Staff Network Conference and be involved in projects which support the retention and career development of the department's Aboriginal employees.
The Project Officer will contribute to a range of recruitment activities, including participation on selection panels and providing community information sessions around the state.
This role involves occasional travel within regional Victoria. A valid driver's licence is required.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
Assisting in the planning, implementation, and delivery of key employment initiatives under the strategy, ensuring alignment with priority goals and timelines.
Coordinate the implementation of appropriate cultural supports to programs, teams and Aboriginal Staff Network members.
Support with recruitment to the Youth Employment Program within People, Safety and Culture team and provide specialist candidate care.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal community, both society and culture, and the issues impacting it.
Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and work effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community.
