Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer , which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence . Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.
We currently have an opportunity for a Project Support Officer in Canberra to work on Maritime projects .
What You’ll Do
This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:
Support project planning and performance , contributing to processes, documentation, briefs, reports and committee submissions while applying project management methodologies.
Assist with technical and commercial activities , including test and evaluation preparation, annual income forecasts, and managing HOG tasking across Engineering, ILS and PMO.
Engage effectively with stakeholders , understanding expectations, providing constructive feedback and working collaboratively as part of a high‑functioning team.
Ensure compliance and problem‑solving , adjusting methodologies to meet legislative and Defence policy requirements, resolving issues and identifying alternative solutions.
Maintain essential administrative capability , including minute‑taking, Defence Objective folder management and supporting other duties as required.
What You’ll Bring
Strong project management capability , including the ability to apply and adapt PM methodologies, manage planning processes, and prepare high‑quality briefs, reports and committee submissions.
Commercial and technical proficiency , with experience supporting test and evaluation activities, preparing income forecasts, taking minutes, and coordinating Engineering, ILS and PMO tasking.
Effective stakeholder engagement and teamwork skills , able to collaborate constructively, understand stakeholder expectations and contribute positively to team performance.
Problem‑solving and compliance awareness , with the ability to resolve issues proactively and ensure all work aligns with legislative, policy and Defence regulatory frameworks.
Familiarity with Defence environments , including understanding Defence Objective folders, documentation standards and administrative processes.
Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
