Job Description
To manage the complete proofreading function of titles taken up for publishing. Proposed designation is Senior Executive-Creative Services
• To proof read galley proofs of book projects under different stages of production — manuscript to final proofs — for accuracy and stylistic consistency
• To thoroughly check camera ready copies, covers and ferroes before sending for printing
• To proof read marketing materials like catalogues, sectionals, posters, cover blurbs and so on
• To undertake thorough quality check of camera ready copy and ferroes with respect to adherence to stylistic consistency, printability, accuracy of index and contents entries, ISBNs, copyright notices, company logos, author name and affiliations, and so on
• To liaise with authors for checking of copy edited and proof read manuscript and proof pages
• To liaise with vendors for generation of proof pages after incorporation of copyediting/proof reading/modification by authors and ensure adherence to schedules and accuracy
• To liaise with freelance copyeditors and proof readers appropriately under the instructions of the Managing Editor/Editorial Head
• To inspect advance copies from press to ensure proper quality
• To visit press during printing of "big ticket" books to ensure quality
Any other additional responsibility could be assigned to the role holder from time to time as a standalone project or regular work. The same would be suitably represented in the Primary responsibilities and agreed between the incumbent and competent authority
Qualifications : Graduate from a good Indian university.
Skills required: (a) Eye for detail, (b) Knowledge of proofreading techiniques and symbols, (3) Basic knowledge of editorial processes and book publishing, (d) Knowledge of publishing terminologies, (e) Knowledge of mathematical and scientific symbols, (f) team-player, (g) Time/schedule management
