As a Prosecutions Officer, you’ll play a key role in managing infringement matters from investigation through to court outcomes.
Working within the Prosecutions and Review Team, you will prepare briefs of evidence, conduct infringement reviews and represent Council in the Magistrates’ Court.
This is a role for someone who enjoys detail, thrives in a structured legislative environment and is confident engaging with a range of stakeholders — from internal teams to legal representatives and members of the public.
A little more about the role
Prepare and manage prosecution matters, including investigations, briefs of evidence, court documentation and appearances
Conduct infringement reviews across Court Elections, Fines Victoria referrals and Enforcement Review matters (including Family Violence and Special Circumstances)
Represent the City of Melbourne in the Magistrates’ Court under appropriate authorisation
Ensure accurate and timely recording of court outcomes and decisions
Provide advice to internal stakeholders on legislation, evidentiary standards and prosecution processes
Liaise with key external agencies including Fines Victoria, Victoria Police, the Sheriff’s Office and legal representatives
Support witnesses in preparing to give evidence in court
Contribute to continuous improvement within the Prosecutions and Review Team

About you
You are a detail-oriented and confident professional with a strong understanding of legislative processes and a commitment to fairness and procedural integrity.
You bring a balanced approach — combining analytical thinking with clear communication and sound judgement.
What your experience might look like - Key Selection Criteria
Experience managing prosecution, enforcement or compliance matters with a strong administrative focus
Knowledge of Magistrates’ Court and Fines Victoria processes and relevant legislation
Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation within a regulatory or local government environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparing briefs and reports
High level of computer literacy, including experience with case management systems
Proven ability to investigate matters and manage competing priorities
A collaborative approach and ability to work effectively within a team
