Details: The ACT Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions was established under the Director of Public Prosecutions Act 1990 to institute, conduct and supervise prosecutions and related proceedings.
The Office comprises:
The Director of Public Prosecutions (the Director), an independent statutory officer appointed by the ACT Executive
Staff employed under the Public Sector Management Act 1994 to assist the Director.
The ODPP’s principal role is to provide an independent, professional and effective prosecution service to the ACT community.
The Office maintains a strong commitment to the ACT Public Service Code of Conduct.
The role requires you to conduct hearings, analyse briefs, provide written advice to the Director, and to liaise with vulnerable witnesses, police and other stakeholders. The majority of your time will be Court based, preparing and appearing in hearings and related appearances in the Magistrates Court, sometimes at short notice. You will also be required to instruct Counsel in more complex hearings from time to time, and to maintain carriage of a variety of matters.
The position will appeal to a person who has advocacy experience and a desire to appear in Court, good legal analysis and the ability to communicate with vulnerable witnesses. Excellent time management skills are essential.

Compliance requirements/qualifications:
Admitted to, or eligible to, practice as a legal practitioner in the ACT.
The successful candidate/s will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
Notes: There are several permanent and temporary positions available for a period of up to 12 months with the possibility of permanency. A Merit Pool may be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
This position will expose you to graphic and confronting material. This position is broad-banded. Depending on your level of experience, you will engage with matters of varying complexities. This position requires the right person to work in the office five days per week. This role cannot be performed from home. Core business hours are 8:30am – 1:00pm; 2:00pm – 4:51pm daily, reflecting court sitting times.
