Psychologist - $83,898 - $118,316 pa
Specialist Psychologist - $114,016 - $139,824 pa
Plus Environmental Allowance, superannuation and annual leave loading

Join Corrective Services NSW as a Psychologist/ Specialist Psychologist and lead the delivery of ethical, person-centred psychological services within the Statewide Disability Services team.


Based at Long Bay Correctional Complex, you’ll support individuals in custody with intellectual disability, cognitive impairment, physical/sensory disability and complex behavioural needs. This is a rare opportunity to apply your leadership and clinical expertise in a role that influences real outcomes for some of the most vulnerable people in the correctional system.

About the Role

Operating as part of a multidisciplinary team, provide trauma-informed, person-centred direct and indirect specialised psychological assessment, intervention, and consultation to people on orders across NSW with cognitive, sensory, and physical disabilities. Provide subject matter expertise in consultations with staff at custodial and community settings regarding the management of people on orders.

Provide specialist opinion and input to statutory authorities including the NSW Mental Health Review Tribunal, NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal and National Disability Insurance Agency. Work collaboratively with Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network, and other CSNSW specialist services by providing subject matter expertise in complex dual diagnosis cases and participation in case conference reviews.

Manage and triage waitlists, actively review work priorities in consultation with colleagues, and complete internal documentation as per CSNSW and SDS business processes.

You will:

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will be involved in providing a range of end-to-end services to people in custody with disability needs. This may include
Early disability identification and verification.
Provision of advice on reasonable adjustments to programs and services provided in custody.
Positive behavioural support planning, implementation and advice.
Diagnostic assessment for Intellectual Impairment, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Acquired Brain Injury, and Dementias.
Pre-release planning, coordination, and evidence for NDIS applications,

What we’re looking for

Motivated and dedicated psychologists with intermediate to advanced experience in:
Diagnostic cognitive assessments, and
Experience in mental health case management and report writing is highly regarded.
Experience working well in teams and communicating clearly and effectively with multiple stakeholders.

To excel in this role, strong administrative skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks and pivot between priorities and operational demands is required. Prior experience or postgraduate training in forensic psychology, clinical psychology or clinical neuropsychology is advantageous. Supervision for registrars or new graduates seeking specialist endorsement may be provided for strong applicants.

Full or provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
Interest in trauma-informed practice, cognitive impairment, forensic risk, and behaviour change
A strong ethical foundation and commitment to evidence-based practice
Effective communication and teamwork skills
NSW Driver Licence and willingness to travel as required
Specialist Psychologist Grade Applicants
