The Public Art Internship will provide current post-graduate students, recent graduates or emerging professionals with the opportunity for hands-on experience in the development and implementation of municipal public art projects.

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Curator, Public Art, the successful candidate will participate in the following:


Coordinating summer cleaning and conduct seasonal art inspections for various public artworks.
Supporting workshops and community outreach initiatives, including leading public art walking tours as needed.
Assisting with the development of project briefs, calls for artists, and art selection processes for various public art projects.
Assisting with research, planning and implementation of temporary and permanent public art initiatives and exhibits in a variety of sizes, scale and mediums.
Preparing material for City presentations, and attend meetings, events, and site visits related to public art projects.
Conducting research, benchmarking, and analysis related to public art, memorial art and best practices.
Skills and Qualifications
Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field (art history, visual arts, art conservation, cultural management, or a related discipline).
Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Demonstrated ability to engage with artists, community members, and subcontractors.
Ability to work both independently, pursuing self-directed tasks, as well as supporting team members and balancing multiple tasks at a time.
Effective research, writing, oral communications and planning skills required.
Ability to travel across Mississauga, perform site visits, and attend evening and weekend meetings pertaining to public art as required.
May require occasional lifting materials and equipment, standing for long periods of time and walking at site visits.
Knowledge of public art processes, including fabrication, installation, conservation and maintenance, is an asset.
Must be proficient in the use of computer software packages and be familiar with the Windows environment, including Word, Excel, Outlook. Experience using collections management software is an asset.
This position is a hybrid model (3 days in office/or field-based tasks, 2 days work from home). Therefore, the successful candidates should be comfortable and proficient for all 3 environments
Hourly Rate/Salary: 19.80 - 23.53
