Program: Vaccine Preventable Diseases

Location: Main Office – 1300 Paris St., Sudbury

Current Work Location Arrangement: Partial On-site: The position requires a combination of regular on-site and remote work. Reasons and schedules can vary, but worker attends on-site regularly (i.e. each week).

Salary: $3+.5+ – $52.10/per hour (as per ONA collective agreement)

Position summary:

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Registered Nurse with strong communication and assessment skills to contribute to our organizational mission of working with our communities to promote and protect health and prevent disease.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Public Health Nurse in this position will be responsible for administering immunizations at school and community clinics, supporting vaccine cold chain storage and handling, and assessing immunization information.

Responsibilities:

Administer immunizations at school and community-based clinics.

Apply expert knowledge of the Publicly Funded Immunization Schedule, vaccine eligibility criteria, and appropriate vaccine intervals to client inquiries and nursing practice.

Assess immunization information in accordance with the ISPA/CCEYA legislation.

Maintain accurate, concise, and timely nursing documentation using electronic databases while ensuring proper data collection and integrity.

Receive, investigate and manage all suspected cases of AEFI that meet provincial reporting criteria as part of the vaccine safety surveillance system.

Inspect vaccine fridges, investigate cold chain incidents, and provide education and resources to premises where publicly funded vaccines are stored.

Receive and manage all inquiries related to immunizations (from the public and health care providers).

Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Fulfill legal and professional obligations and responsibilities in accordance with relevant legislation and agency policies, procedures, and medical directives.

Ability to work under pressure with effective organizational and time management skills.

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Perform other duties as assigned that support the organizational goals.

Requirements:

Recognized Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree.

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Current CPR level C certification.

Experience administering immunizing agents.

Experience with platforms such as Panorama, iPHIS, SharePoint, and Microsoft applications is considered an asset.

Minimum of one-year full-time equivalent experience in the area of Medication Administration (within the last three years) or successful completion of a Medication Administration refresher course (within the last two years).

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in both official languages – English and French is an asset.

Satisfactory criminal reference check (vulnerable sector) is a condition of employment.

Current Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
