This is a key leadership opportunity responsible for leading Tourism New Zealand's earned communications strategy in Australia - one of our most important international markets.

As Public Relations Manager, you'll set the strategic direction for PR, communications and storytelling to drive preference for New Zealand as a holiday destination.

You'll lead high-impact earned media programmes across broadcast, digital, influencers, partnerships and other bold and innovative content projects ensuring strong integration across Paid, Owned, Earned and Trade channels.

Leading a high-performing PR team, you will manage agencies partners and work closely with stakeholders across Australia and New Zealand. Building trusted relationships with media, industry representatives and travel trade will be at the heart of who you are.

This role plays a critical part in building New Zealand's reputation in market - proactively identifying high-impact opportunities, managing media risk, and delivering standout storytelling that amplifies Destination New Zealand's brand.

You're a strategic, creative and confident PR leader who thrives in fast-paced, high-profile environments. You bring strong commercial and reputational judgement, deep media expertise, and a passion for storytelling that delivers measurable impact.

You'll bring:

Experience leading end-to-end earned media and PR strategy in complex high-visibility environments.
Extensive experience in public relations and communications (typically 7+ years)
Demonstrated experience managing issues and crisis communications.
Proven success securing major coverage across broadcast, digital and innovative platforms.
Strong People leadership capability, with experience coaching and developing high-performing teams.
Confidence advising senior stakeholders on media, reputation and risk.
A collaborative mindset, with the ability to integrate PR across paid, owned and trade activity.
A data-informed approach, using insights and emerging technologies (including AI-enabled tools) to strengthen strategy and performance.
Experience managing agencies, budgets and large-scale programmes with accountability and impact.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
