About the Role

We are seeking an experienced professional to work as part of a team of passionate community development practitioners within the Community Planning & Development Branch.

The Branch supports and develops initiatives that build community connection, inclusion and resilience and create opportunities that are available for all. Everything we do and stand for is driven from our fundamental community focus. To deeply understand the needs of our community, we listen to the wide range of diverse experiences of the people who live here.

The Public Space Liaison Officer (PSLO) will work relationally and developmentally with diverse stakeholders to work towards positive outcomes for people experiencing homelessness, who are utilising public spaces.

Your role would include;

Attending public spaces and outreach activities regularly within Sunshine Coast Council’s local government area
Building trauma-informed relationships with people experiencing homelessness to develop trust and rapport
Using a developmental approach, to involve people experiencing homelessness in negotiating outcomes and solutions that involve or impact them.
Establishing relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external) to build awareness, empathy and understanding.
Enabling access to amenities to meet basic needs and establishing effective referral pathways.
Promoting responsible and shared use of public space, as per Council’s local laws, and fostering an environment of community inclusivity through community education and community development principles.
About you

To be successful in the role you will have tertiary qualifications in Community Development, Social Work, Social Science or relevant field, or substantial relevant experience. Coupled with strong knowledge and experience working with people who are experiencing trauma.

You will have a high level of self-awareness and the ability to maintain a calm and professional approach when engaging with people that have experienced trauma and may display anti-social behaviour.

Strong project management and organisation skills with demonstrated ability to develop plans, quality record keeping, coordinate actions. As well as highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate persuasively, engage in active listening, consult with a wide range of people to gain cooperation and deliver outcomes.
