Python Developer - Economics & Country Risk
The Team:
Building on our unrivaled coverage of the economic, industry and risk landscape, we enable clients - large and small - to identify growth, plan accurately and navigate uncertainty. We partner with companies to help them identify new trends, size growth opportunities, monitor risk and opportunity ratios, conduct market assessments, plan for alternate scenarios, and secure their business continuity.
Our solutions enable clients to better allocate resources, capitalize on change and build an integrated, enterprise-wide approach to economics and risk.
Responsibilities:
This is a key technical role in the development and maintenance of data models and pipelines. Our current work sits at the intersection between economics, country risk, supply chain and geo-spatial applications. We build robust predictive models using the latest techniques in statistics, econometrics, and data science. You will be creative and curious with hands-on experience using Python as a data science and data engineering tool.
Build new data pipelines, extend, and maintain existing pipelines and contribute to our internal engineering tool set where possible. You will work on projects that have a real and immediate commercial impact and will have the opportunity to contribute to our suite of prediction and forecasting models.
You will work with large data sets ranging from point geo-coded intelligence events through to national level economic time series. You will interact with some of the world's best economists and risk analysts, plus you will be part of a high-performing team of engineers with a good engineering culture already in place.
You must be comfortable in a modern software engineering environment. Version control, CI and CD pipelines, cloud-native tech stacks, unit testing and good documentation are our daily tools and ambition. An interest in machine learning, economics, statistics, or political risk is beneficial but not required.
• Build models and automate data flows using our existing pipeline framework
• Contribute to and extend our existing data pipeline framework
• Upgrade legacy models to modern statistical techniques and tool chains
• Deploy and scale existing processes to cloud-native solutions
• Keeping up to date with the latest evolution in engineering best practice and technologies
• Implement 'proof of concept' ideas to test feasibility of new products
Minimum and Preferred Experience/Skills:
• Tertiary qualification with Computer Science/Economics/Math/Statistics or similar in the final year, or relevant experience
• 3+ years professional experience, ideally in a data science or software development role
• Must be able to contribute to code bases in Python
• Comfortable with Git, issue trackers and related tools
• SQL or no-SQL experience
• Should have good communication skills
