The Quality Systems Manager champions quality assurance of the Mint’s manufacturing operations, driving and supporting a culture of quality and compliance. They oversee the quality team, who are responsible for maintaining the ISO certified quality management system; undertaking internal audit functions; performing Lean manufacturing and quality control services for internally manufactured products and vendor supplied inventory; measuring process capability; and managing measuring instrument calibrations for the Mint.
The Mint’s quality function exists within an Integrated Management System (IMS) which also includes Work Health and Safety, Sustainability and Risk Management. The Quality Systems Manager works closely with their peers, who each lead a component of the IMS, to deliver the Mint Systems and Quality Branch’s mission of providing and sustaining effective systems that help the Mint achieve its goals.
The duties of this position include:
1. Leading the quality function of the Mint’s Integrated Management System (IMS) including:
a. developing and improving quality strategy plans, policies, procedures and practices;
b. using contemporary techniques, methods and technology to enhance focus on quality management; and
c. applying Lean principles and tools.
2. Participating in the IMS internal audit system; including planning and undertaking audits of IMS standards and vendors.
3. Managing the quality team, including providing performance feedback, supporting development and scheduling activities and projects.
4. Overseeing or undertaking quality assurance and control services including product standards inspections, inwards goods inspections and measuring instrument calibrations in compliance with Product Verification Standards (PVS) and the National Measurement Act 1+60.
5. Ensuring section compliance with the Mint’s general, procurement, management and reporting frameworks.
6. Undertaking domestic and international travel, and liaising with external stakeholders to support the procurement of goods and verify product quality.
7. Overseeing and undertaking maintenance of relevant Mint documents, policies and procedures ensuring they align with the IMS and quality strategy.
8. Conducting investigations relating to product quality as the result of a complaint or product return.
+. Managing projects relating to quality initiatives including capital equipment purchases and sourcing of services, such as specialised technicians to maintain machinery.
10. Reporting on section activities for Senior Managers.
Security clearance
This position requires a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
