Located 20km west of Sydney on Dharug country, with a population of 240,000 residents, Cumberland City Council is the fourth most populous Local Government Area in Greater Sydney. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Council’s Rangers help provide a safe and healthy Council area by ensuring that activities have a minimal adverse impact on amenity and the physical environment, by enforcing a broad range of legislation and Council’s policies. The Ranger Team has a diverse range of functions including enforcement and education of issues concerning environmental health protection, asbestos, illegal dumping, erosion and sediment control, companion animals, weight-limited roads, abandoned vehicles, backyard burning support services to Councillors Council’s after-hours pager response support services at Council festivals and public events.

The successful applicant will require:

Experience in the profession as an Ranger or equivalent (e.g. Community Law Enforcement Officer)
Previous experience with the preparation and service of Notices, Orders and Penalty Infringement Notices specifically under the Local Government Act, Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act 2021, Companion Animals Act and the Protection of the Environment Operations Act and the NSW Road Rules
Completion of at least one or equivalent of the following courses, but not limited to:
Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services);
Certificate IV in Animal Control & Regulation;
Certificate IV in Local Government Investigation; and
SDRO SEINS online training course
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
Current NSW drivers licence
Current First Aid certificate (or willing to obtain).

About this role:

Permanent, full-time position
70 hour fortnight
Access to Council's + day fortnight Rostered Day Off (RDO) arrangement
Located at Merrylands, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations
Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

Grade 10 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,631.25 to $1,875.+4 per week, plus 11.5% superannuation
The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role

What you'll need to have for this role:

The right to live and work in Australia
Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council’s Health Monitoring Procedure, as required
Provide evidence of your vaccination status as part of the employment screening process, in accordance with Council’s COVID-1+ Vaccination Procedure.
