Supervises: Students and Paraprofessionals
Job Summary: The reading specialist will conduct demonstration lessons, model how to be successful with struggling readers, serve
as a resource to classroom teachers, provide professional developmental workshops for ARI teachers, and be a catalyst
for the continuous professional development of ARI teachers.
Typical Duties:
1. To work with struggling readers long enough to develop the expertise it takes to be successful with the students who challenge us most.
2. To coach other ARI teachers so that all teachers become better equipped to help ARI schools achieve their goal of 100% offhe students reading grade-level materials
3. Attend a daylong monthly training session sponsored by the ARI.
4. Report the progress of the Literacy Demonstration Sites (LDSs) to the State Department of Education (SDE).
5. Provide (or arrange for) staff development related to the ARI to Literacy Demonstration Sites in the Local Education Agency (LEA).
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Education.
Relevant certification
Must have completed the two-week summer institute and/or be a certified presenter for the ARI.
