Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
The Receptionist greets and responds to the immediate needs of clients, donors and friends, gives general oversight to the reception area, assists with client assistance and provides program and administrative support as required.
Accountabilities:
Be the first point of contact for the Haven of Hope community ministries and church office
Greet and respond to all walk-in inquiries
Answer the telephone and direct calls accordingly
Consistently demonstrate a cheerful manner, regularly demonstrating courtesy and empathy
Ensure the general cleanliness and orderliness of the reception areas
Assist with the general cleanliness of the program and general office spaces
Assist with Client Assistance as directed by the Community Ministries Coordinator
Manage client purchases from “Sally Shop” food items including totaling purchases and collecting cash payments
Receive, sort and organize non-monetary donations or purchased products following standard procedures
Arrange for appropriate discarding of non-monetary donations that are unusable
Work cooperatively with volunteers
Assist with training, directing and empowerment of volunteers
Assist with maintaining client files and records
Assist with regularly scheduled and seasonal programming
Greet and direct program participants
Collect program fees (i.e. Sally Shop, Camp etc.)
Provide administrative support
Accept walk-in monetary donations and provide temporary receipts to donors
Assist with the gathering and reporting of statistical data
Support community ministries staff with booking intake appointments, correspondence, filing, scanning, research and weekly and monthly publications
Perform other duties as assigned
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
This position reports directly to the Community Ministries Coordinator
This incumbent is the initial point-of-contact for all walk-in visitors
The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees, volunteers and/or students.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly and has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources.
He/She may be authorized to collect, or transport small and large amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.
Work Environment:
The Salvation Army is a smoke free and scent free workplace.
This incumbent’s work environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions
Physical Effort/Dexterity Required:
The performance of the job requires a frequent amount of sitting for long periods of time.
Some twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling, lifting and kneeling may be required. Required to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.

Education and experience Qualifications:
Completion of two (2) years of Community College, or an alternative level of education
Completion of two (2) years of experience in social services or customer service
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
Possess strong computer skills, including knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Office 365 applications and the ability to effectively manage a digital filing system
Possess a good working knowledge of general office procedures and equipment
Ability to learn Salvation Army specific software including Link2Feed, SAMIS and Shelby
Skills and Attributes:
Possess strong organization skills
Ability to multitask and effectively manage and respond to multiple demands
Ability to work as a team member
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Ability to relate to a varied group of people including those with socioeconomic disadvantages
Possess a willingness to commit to and be guided by The Salvation Army’s core operational values, and to be a positive Christian example to those you come in contact with through the ministries of The Salvation Army
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $15.6+ to $1+.62 with a maximum of $23.54.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
