Job Description
This is an identified position for First Nation’s people. This position requires demonstrated knowledge of First Nation’s cultures and issues, communities and protocols, and the ability to build strong, respectful relationships with First Nations stakeholders. AFCA considers being a First Nation’s person is a genuine occupational qualification for this position in accordance with section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW) and a special measure under section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic) and section 8(4) of the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 (Vic).

About the role

Working closely with the Senior Manager, Reconciliation, you’ll play a central role in supporting the delivery of AFCA’s Innovate‑level Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). You’ll help embed reconciliation across the organisation, not as a document on a shelf, but as real, measurable actions that strengthen outcomes for First Nations peoples.

This is a role for someone who is organised, proactive, and values‑driven, and who wants to be part of long‑term, systemic change. This is initially a 12 month fixed term contract.

Typically in this role, you will:

Support the coordination and delivery of AFCA’s Innovate‑level RAP, aligned to Reconciliation Australia’s expectations.
Maintain RAP documentation, action trackers, evidence records and progress reporting across Relationships, Respect and Opportunities.
Support RAP reporting, submissions, presentations and governance updates.
Coordinate culturally respectful engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, Elders and community organisations.
Support the Reconciliation Working Group by preparing materials, documenting outcomes and tracking follow‑up actions.
Respond to Senior Leadership enquiries with clear, timely RAP updates.
Assist with workshops, engagement activities and internal capability‑building initiatives.
Contribute to continuous improvement by reviewing materials and improving coordination processes.
Qualifications
What you’ll bring

Strong understanding of Reconciliation Action Plans, particularly Innovate‑level RAPs, and a genuine commitment to reconciliation.
Demonstrated ability to engage respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations.
Excellent organisational and coordination skills, with strong attention to detail.
Clear written and verbal communication skills, including reporting and briefing.
Experience supporting governance processes, meetings and action tracking.
Confidence using digital tools such as Microsoft Office, Teams and SharePoint.
A values‑led approach that reflects fairness, accountability, respect and transparency.
