Lifeline Australia is a national suicide prevention charity providing all Australians experiencing emotional distress with access to 24-hour crisis support and suicide prevention services. They are committed to empowering Australians to be suicide-safe through connection, compassion and hope. This is achieved through a partnership of over 10,000 committed volunteers and their member centres in communities across the nation.
THE ROLE
As a Volunteer Recruitment Officer, you’ll coordinate the recruitment, screening, onboarding, and support processes for volunteers delivering digital services. Working closely with our network of Centres and internal teams, you’ll ensure a smooth, supportive experience for every volunteer — from first inquiry to training commencement.
You'll manage applications using Rosterfy, maintain compliance records, communicate with potential volunteers, and help shape recruitment strategies that foster long-term engagement and retention.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate end-to-end digital volunteer recruitment and onboarding
Process applications, verify police/WWCC checks, and manage cohort assignments
Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with privacy and security policies
Support and attend volunteer information sessions and inductions
Respond to volunteer enquiries and deliver clear, timely communication
Collaborate with internal teams to improve onboarding systems and documents
Track expiring clearances and manage withdrawal or special case applications
REQUIREMENTS
Experience in volunteer recruitment, HR admin, or workforce coordination
Strong organisation and data management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with systems like Rosterfy, MS Office, Zoom/Teams
Ability to work independently while collaborating virtually
A genuine interest in volunteer experience and mental health services
Desirable: Experience in the not-for-profit or health sector and knowledge of volunteer onboarding best practices.
