Job Description:

Position Overview:

Reporting to Manager of the Women and Children’s Program, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementation and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in an interprofessional family centred care environment at the Centenary, and General sites. Patient caseload includes premature and critically ill infants in our Level II NICU’s. Responsibilities will also include attending high risk births and code pink resuscitation situations. The successful candidate will work at all SHN hospital sites.

Requirements:

Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario

Current BCLS

Current completion of the George Brown College Perinatal Intensive Care Nursing Certificate or equivalent education within one year of hire

Minimum of 2 years current Level II NICU experience

Current Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) Certification or completion within 3 months of hire date

Current STABLE certification or completion within 3 months of hire date

Recognized Breastfeeding course or completion of course within 3 months of hire date

Committed to complete all Departmental added Nursing Competency Certification within 3 months of hire

Expectation to work in any area of Women and Children’s Program as required

Demonstrated clinical problem solving skills and ability to apply neonatal knowledge, skills and judgement

Demonstrated proficiency in dealing with cultural diversities and caring for families in crisis, including bereavement

Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations

Interest in patient teaching and working in an environment of theory base practice and family-centred care

Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound clinical judgement

Ability to perform the essential duties of the position

Exposure to Lean principles, an understanding of methodologies and tools and a commitment to the use of these in support of providing the best healthcare experience possible to our patients

Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public

Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area

Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation

Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards

Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community

Excellent work performance and attendance

Asset:

Certification in blood collection and IV insertions

Ability to speak another language
