Position Title: Regulatory Compliance Specialist

Department: Transmission

Reports to: Manager of Regulatory Compliance

Location: Atlanta, GA (*On-site)
• Incumbent must work in office in Atlanta four (4) days per week and may work remotely one (1) day per week with manager approval

Position Summary:

The Regulator Compliance Specialist supports MEAG Power’s Transmission Department in ensuring full compliance with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulations, North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Reliability Standards, and SERC Reliability Corporation regional requirements. This role assists in maintaining audit readiness and integrity of MEAG Power’s Planning, Operations, and Cyber security compliance programs through proactive monitoring, documentation, and continuous improvement of internal controls.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
• Compliance Monitoring and Documentation (60%)
• Monitor and assess compliance using MEAG Power’s Governance, Risk, and Compliance Tool (Global Audit Ready – GAR).
• Develop and maintain a periodic compliance monitoring schedule for applicable NERC Reliability Standards.
• Support Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) with interpreting standards, collecting and validating evidence, and responding to compliance obligations.
• Ensure Reliability Standard Audit Worksheets (RSAWs) and supporting documentation remain accurate and audit-ready.
• Conduct peer reviews and management oversight to verify compliance accuracy and effectiveness of internal controls.
• Ensure compliance awareness so that MEAG meets deadlines and audit scopes / schedules.
• Monitor external activities (at FERC, NERC, and SERC) that affect MEAG Power’s transmission planning, engineering and operations; advise managers as needed to ensure compliance.
• Procedure, Policy, and Internal Control Development (15%)
• Assist in developing, updating, and maintaining departmental policies, procedures, and internal controls aligned with FERC, NERC, and SERC requirements.
• Identify compliance gaps and recommend process improvements to strengthen overall compliance posture.
• Integrate compliance requirements into new projects, system upgrades, and operational changes.
• Audit Preparation and Evidence Management (15%)
• Coordinate internal and external audits, spot checks, and self-certifications.
• Organize and maintain compliance evidence to meet audit standards.
• Track and communicate regulatory changes (NERC/SERC Standards, FERC Orders, and related alerts) and facilitate implementation discussions with SMEs and management.
• Training and Continuous Improvement (10%)
• Develop and deliver compliance awareness materials and training sessions for Transmission personnel.
• Participate in industry forums and workshops to stay informed on regulatory updates and best practices.
• Contribute to automation, data analytics, and other continuous improvement initiatives in compliance management.
• Additional Responsibilities:
• Support coordination of self-reports, mitigation plans, and compliance exceptions.
• Maintain documentation for audits, data submissions, and compliance risk assessments.
• Collaborate with Cybersecurity, Planning, and Operations teams to ensure consistent compliance practices.
• Prepare and present compliance summary reports for management and internal committees.
• Monitor external FERC, NERC, and SERC activities and advise management on potential impacts.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in electric utility transmission, generation, planning, or operations.
• Demonstrated experience working with FERC, NERC, and SERC regulatory compliance programs.
• Technical expertise in Operations & Planning (O&P) and/or Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Reliability Standards.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in compliance or audit management software tools (GAR or equivalent).
• Familiarity of the Georgia Integrated Transmission System is a plus.
