Get to know the Role
We are looking for a Release Manager to manage the release lifecycle, which includes scheduling, coordinating and managing releases across the enterprise, for all product work streams across multiple business lines. The releases will primarily be internal application updates and vendor system upgrades, while once in a while it could also include infra updates. You will be defining processes, providing tools to product and development teams to manage and deploy releases.
You will be responsible for implementing and managing release processes for code through development, test, and production environments. You will work collaboratively with all participants in software development projects and be supportive of developers and testers as they set up their builds on dev/test environments. You will work with SRE/DBE teams to improve the processes related to rollout.
The Day-to-Day Activities
Plan release windows and cycles across a portfolio. This involves scheduling, managing and coordinating releases across multiple applications within various portfolios across different teams and projects.
Manage risks and resolve issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality. This includes constructing a release calendar for the different projects to have a centralized view of all releases, managing and mitigating risks and resolving issues regarding release quality and schedule.
Maintain the release schedule for all core services and ensure alignment across key partners and vendors. This includes participating in Change Approval Board (CAB) meetings to discuss release scope and/or roadblocks.
Coordinate release content and effort based on the service request backlog, pending service requests, third party applications, or operating system updates. This includes managing relationships working on interrelated processes.
Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations. This includes negotiating, planning and managing all release activities.
Conduct Release Readiness reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Go/No-Go reviews. This involves leading and co-ordinating the Go-Live activities including the execution of the deployment Plans and checklists.
Produce Deployment, Run Books and Implementation Plans. This includes developing scripts and automation tools used to build, integrate, and deploy software releases to various platforms.
Continually work towards making improvements in the release process. This involves researching new software development and configuration management methodologies and technologies and analyzing their application to current configuration management needs.
The Must-Haves
Bachelor’s degree
3+ years in release management role
Overall 5 to 8 years of experience
Knowledge of SDLC/ SSDLC life cycle
Prior experience in coordinating between multiple teams
Prior experience in building CI/CD pipelines at scale
