Who can become a Home Helper for Age Concern Hampshire?
Age Concern Hampshire is looking for compassionate and empathetic individuals to work across Hampshire as part of our Help at Home Service.
We are looking for individuals who are;
• Compassionate and empathetic
• Excellent communicators and can build rapport easily
• Trustworthy, conscientious, reliable and punctual
• Flexible and able to show initiative
• Good listeners
The position is rewarding and flexible although Home Helpers are required to ensure they keep their commitments to their clients. At £14.00 per hour, Home Helpers are registered self-employed and therefore responsible for paying their own tax, insurance and National Insurance contributions. No sick pay or holiday pay will be included. Work cannot be guaranteed starting out but schedules are gradually built up over a few months.
What is the Help at Home Service?
Age Concern Hampshire co-ordinates services for people living in Andover, Basingstoke, Locks Heath, Hedge End, Havant and surrounding areas. We support older people who would like help doing jobs and daily chores which aim to improve their quality of life and keep them independent at home.
Our Home Helpers support our clients (aged 50+) with general cleaning, laundry and ironing, bed linen change, shopping, helping to cook a light meal or snack, prescription collection and companionship. Personal care is not part of the Help at Home Service.
The needs of the clients will be assessed by the Help at Home Co-ordinator prior to allocating the visit to ensure you are not expected to carry out work outside of your remit. You will be provided with guidance regarding keeping yourself and your client safe, including Covid19 safety guidance, and the Co-ordinator will inform you of any potential risks that have been identified in clients’ homes.All Home Helpers will need to hold a drivers licence with own transportation. All Home Helpers will need to have a satisfactory enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
As part of your application process we ask that you pay for a DBS check, costing £65.10, unless you already have one that is less than a year old and covers Adult Workforce.

The Kitchen Assistant will undertake, normally under the general direction of the Team Leader or Assistant Manager undertake the preparation, simple cooking, and serving of food within the kitchen in a residential care home or other similar establishment.
The Kitchen Assistant will be aware of and adhere to health and safety rules and regulations (including COSHH regs) relating to all aspects of the post including the use of electrical equipment.

• Rate of pay shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1.4808 per hour
• Relief post available to cover servery, Monday to Friday, approximately 3 hours per day - 11am to 2pm
• Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made
