In accordance with the strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient and staff safety is a top priority. As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

The Remote Certified Primary Care Nurse practices autonomously, utilizing an extended scope of practice defined by regulatory guidance. This includes provincial legislation; BC College of Nurses and Midwives scope of practice, practice standards and code of ethics; Nurse and Nurse Practitioners of BC decision support tools; Island Health policies, procedures and guidelines; and individual nurse competencies.

As a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, you will provide direct patient care and participate in health promotion activities for groups and individuals throughout the remote community. Your approach to care must encompass community and cultural values that are client-focused, aiming to maintain or achieve maximum health.

This role requires a broad focus of health care activities which incorporates disease prevention, chronic disease management, and acute care across the lifespan. This includes emergency assessment; treatment and palliation of illness and injury; assessment of health status; planning, implementation and evaluation of interventions, and coordination of health services.

Travel may be a requirement of this position. You must have transportation arrangements that meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

To succeed in this role, you must have

Remote nursing certification or eligible for Remote Nursing Certification to be obtained within one (1) year of hire.
Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN(C) registrant.
Three (3) years' recent related experience; knowledge of available programs and services, their interrelationships, and their function in delivering care in the community; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
BASIC Life Support, Level 'C' certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Trauma nursing core course or equivalent.
A valid Driver's license.
You must demonstrate ability to

provide client-focused, trauma-informed, and culturally safe care.
complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through evidence-based guidelines.
instruct clients and others about topics essential to health care and well-being.
apply knowledge of care planning and care coordination, including knowledge of community programs and services.
utilize sound judgment, good observation and assessment skills, tact, and empathy.
intervene in crisis or difficult situations.
demonstrate effective written, electronic, and verbal communication to facilitate inter-professional collaborative practice, health environments, and a respectful workplace for clients, staff, students, and partners/affiliates.
demonstrate ability to manage time and resources effectively.
self-awareness, developing and implementing own learning goals for continuous learning and professional development.
inform, apply, and integrate research and evidence-based best practices related to nursing and health-related disciplines into professional practice.
operate related equipment and technology including relevant computer applications.
perform duties of the position.
