Job Overview
We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Inpatient Facility Medical Coder to join our esteemed team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the accurate assignment of diagnosis and procedure codes across a variety of healthcare environments, including Emergency Departments, Ambulatory Surgical Centers, Hospital Ambulatory Surgical Centers, Observations, and Inpatient records. Your attention to detail and commitment to excellence will be instrumental in supporting our mission to deliver outstanding healthcare services.
Key Responsibilities
• Assign precise diagnosis and procedure codes to patient health records in various facility settings.
• Uphold high standards of quality and productivity utilizing ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and HCPCS/CPT coding systems.
• Adhere strictly to established coding guidelines from CMS, NCHS, AMA, NCCI, UHDDS, and OMAP.
• Communicate effectively with physicians to clarify diagnoses and procedures as necessary.
• Abstract clinical data from health records and fulfill other assigned tasks.
• Complete one week of on-site training or until departmental expectations are met.
Required Skills
• Advanced proficiency in medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding principles (ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS/CPT).
• Strong understanding of disease processes, diagnostic and surgical procedures, and relevant government regulations regarding potential fraud and abuse.
• Expertise in EMR patient documentation systems and intermediate computer skills.
• Excellent time management, organizational, and analytical capabilities.
• Ability to efficiently manage a substantial workload while meeting established deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Adhere to the Standards of Ethical Coding established by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• Successfully pass a coding skills assessment with a score of 75% or higher.
Qualifications
• Must reside in Washington or Oregon.
• A minimum of five years of coding experience, with at least four years in inpatient facility coding.
• Academic knowledge and practical experience in coding and abstracting within health information/medical record services.

Education
• A High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) is required.
Licensure, Certification, And Registration
Candidates must hold one of the following certifications:
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
• Coding Specialist (CCS)
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
