Intro:

TP Freight Lines, a Portland-based LTL carrier with 70+ trucks and an expanding brokerage division, is seeking a part-time senior-level accounting professional to help us strengthen our financial operations. This is a remote or hybrid role ideal for an experienced accountant with transportation industry knowledge a must.

About the Role:

We’re looking for a hands-on expert to guide and supervise our accounting workflows (AR, AP, cash flow, and reporting), mentor existing staff, and help us improve systems and accuracy. You’ll act as our internal financial advisor, ensuring sound reporting, policy, and system structure.

Responsibilities:

Review and optimize AR/AP and general ledger processes

Oversee reconciliation, job costing, and cash flow analysis

Support or lead transition to improved accounting systems

Train or mentor in-house finance staff (non-CPA)

Assist with monthly closing and financial visibility for leadership

Work with ownership to align financials with strategic goals

Qualifications:

5–10 years of accounting experience, including 3+ in transportation, logistics, or trucking

Strong understanding of accrual accounting and cost tracking

Skilled in QuickBooks and Excel; knowledge of TMS integration a plus

Experience training bookkeepers or junior accountants

Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, or related field required

Nice to Have:

Controller or senior accountant experience in trucking or brokerage

Familiarity with EDI billing, freight settlements, and union payroll

Position Details:

Part-time (5–15 hours/week), flexible schedule

Remote preferred; periodic in-person meetings welcome but not required

Reports directly to ownership/leadership team

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
