Remote Sensing Senior Scientist (EO – Vegetation Monitoring and Reporting Team

Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $124,322 pa to $138494 pa + super


Use satellite imagery mapping expertise and project management to help protect NSW landscapes.

You will play a leading role in innovative, statewide vegetation change monitoring programs that support environmental regulation, conservation planning and evidence-based policy.

You will combine your imagery interpretation knowledge, leadership and program delivery skills to oversee statewide monitoring of land cover and vegetation change. You will guide a small team of scientists while working with experts across government to deliver maps and data that directly informs environmental decision-making.

About You
You will demonstrate leadership and workflow management skills to co-ordinate a group of image interpreters to deliver the fortnightly and annual products. You will be expert in visual interpretation of aerial photography and/or satellite imagery. You will have applied these skills across a range of imagery types and software environments.

You will provide technical direction and support in the delivery of programs that use remotely sensed imagery to create data. You will lead by example and motivate your team to continuously improve their product, skills and efficiency. You will lead with empathy, compassion and tact. You will collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the product meets their needs.

You will thrive as part of a geographically dispersed team that supports flexible working and promotes collaboration and knowledge sharing. You will be responsible for the day to day management of 2-3 staff. Your communication skills will be applied in presenting geographic, spatial and technical information to diverse audiences. You will take responsibility for a range of tasks that will involve collaboration with technical, scientific and operational colleagues.

You will have an interest in developing your existing spatial knowledge into the use of unix based postgres relational databases and be keen to build the skills needed to work effectively within our systems.

Essential Requirements
Degree in relevant field or equivalent demonstrated relevant experience in the application of Remote Sensing to environmental monitoring.
