Position Overview:
Assist in the discovery of novel antibiotic producing microorganisms using non-conventional media and conditions.
Duties:
Identifying and developing novel media for the isolation of bacteria and fungi.
Isolating and identifying bacteria and fungi.
Testing isolates for antibiotic production.
Small scale fermentations to produce antibiotics.
General media preparation and microbiological lab duties.
Qualifications:
Biol-2902 and Biol-3901.
Microbiology, Biology or Biochemistry.
General Biology lab experience.
General microbiology lab experience.
Able to work in a BSC.
Able to isolate and purify microbial isolates.
Able to produce and sterilize solid and liquid media.
Experience autoclaving.
Condition(s) of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
The period of work will be from May 25, 2026 - August 28, 2026 and the estimated total hours of work will be 150 hours.
