Location: Nelson | Full-time, Permanent
Join Cawthron’s Food & Bioactives team and support high-quality science that helps determine the composition and safety of New Zealand foods, food ingredients, and nutraceutical products.
We are currently accepting applications for an early-career scientist with a strong foundation in analytical chemistry to contribute to a mix of research and consultancy projects, working alongside experienced scientists and project teams. What you'll do
Support the delivery of high-quality research and consultancy projects across the Food & Bioactives group.
Apply sound scientific principles to produce robust, defensible analytical results that meet project objectives.
Use analytical chemistry techniques such as LC-MS/MS, HPLC, and GC/MS to support food and bioactive research.
Contribute to scientific reporting, including clear written communication of methods, results, and conclusions for colleagues and clients.
Work collaboratively within project teams while managing your own time and defined tasks effectively.
Assist with proposal development, research bids, and project coordination alongside senior scientists.
Uphold quality systems, regulatory requirements, and health and safety standards.

What you’ll bring
A post-graduate qualification (or equivalent demonstrated experience) in analytical chemistry or a closely related field.
Experience (2+ years) using analytical chemistry techniques, ideally including LC-MS/MS, HPLC, and/or GC/MS.
A strong technical foundation and general understanding of scientific methodologies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to contribute to scientific reports and material for wider audiences.
Strong time-management and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently on defined tasks.
Proficient in MS Office and analytical instrument software.
A collaborative, curious mindset with a willingness to learn and adapt.
A professional approach to working with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
Commitment to quality and high standards, with a positive and professional approach to work.
A strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements, with a proactive approach to safe working.
