Qualifications
MINIMAL FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelor's Degree in a related study area, including laboratory analysis techniques.
OR
Completion of a Community College course in a related discipline with one years = directly-related experience.
OR
High school completion with job-related options with a minimum of four years = directly-related experience.
EXPIERENCE:
Strong understanding of analytical chemistry principles, preferably with experience in mass spectrometry workflows
At least two years of hands-on experience preparing complex biological samples for mass spectrometry analysis, including protein extraction from various sample types, protein purification, digestion, peptide desalting, phosphopeptide enrichment and sample submission to the mass spectrometer.
Demonstrated up-to-date knowledge of current sample preparation methods, workflows, and best practices for mass spectrometry-based analysis.
Experience with chromatography and protein biochemistry is an asset.
An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Experience with job-related software such as Word/WordPerfect, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
Capable of learning and mastering new techniques.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
Ability to train staff and students in techniques used in the workplace.
Ability to adapt techniques, to plan and carry out experiments and procedures under general direction and to keep within budget and schedule guidelines.
A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
Key responsibilities
Provide competent analysis using LC-MS platforms at the Centre.
Operation of instruments LC, MS and robotics .
General maintenance of instruments.
Assist in preparation of invoices for services.
Process samples for analysis
Inventory and preparation of standard buffers and solutions.
Method development in conjunction with Director of the Centre or the lead technician.
Provide advice to users on the capabilities and approaches available at the Centre.
Train extended users of the centre in sample preparation techniques.
May be required to preform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
