The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women, girls, and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. Our programs work to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness, and crime.
We are recruiting for a casual, on-call Support Worker for Columbia Place CRF. Located in New Westminster, Columbia Place provides community supervision for up to 17 women on conditional release from the Fraser Valley Institution for Women and other correctional settings within a bed based communal housing setting. Women are provided with case management support to address their unique risk factors and to demonstrate their ability to self-manage and meet the conditions of release imposed by the Parole Board of Canada. Operating on an awake basis around the clock, staff support women to complete the community plan they presented to the Parole Board, and report, as legally required, on the women’s compliance with the governing legislative requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Provide one-on-one programming, monitoring and case management support to women on conditional release within a halfway house setting.
· Provide for the safety and well-being of residents and the community; fulfill legal requirements to report parole violations and escalating risk to CSC.
· Record all activities and interactions with participants as part of ongoing case management and risk assessment.
· Monitor the day-to-day operations of residence to ensure quality control for all equipment and facilityhygiene in keeping with community standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Diploma in Social Services/Criminology or other relevant disciplines with an accredited educational institution.
· Minimum of one (1) year experience with criminalized women in a residential environment.
· Working knowledge of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act and best practices re. mental health and substance use interventions.
· Knowledge of housing and prosocial community supports for women exiting prison.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
MANDATORY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
· Minimum on-call availability of 7 shifts per week to provide staffing coverage for sick, vacation and other employee absences as required.
· Food Safe Level 1.
· Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
· Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination status.
· Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test and compliance with the TB Control Program.
· Doctor’s Note of fitness required.
· Satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Search).
· Valid driver’s license (Class 5) with satisfactory driving record an asset.
· This position requires union membership.
